Athletic director Gabie Huling, softball coach Frankie Palmisano and Salesian Principal Sister Michelle Geiger at the Academy of Our Lady proudly support senior Gina Escuda, of Luling, as she signed Nov. 13 a national letter of intent to play softball in college at Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond. Escude was named to the Westbank Quarterback Club and first team All-District in 2018 and 2019.

Archbishop Chapelle High School recently celebrated excellence at an Advanced Placement (AP) student luncheon hosted by associate principal ? Panzavecchia and AP coordinator Shannon Spafford. AP students from the 2018-19  and 2019-20 school year were recognized for their dedication, determination and success on last year’s AP exams.

On the weekend of Dec. 7-8, our parishes will hold the Retirement Fund for Religious collection, an annual appeal that benefits some 30,000 senior sisters, brothers and religious order priests.

The archdiocesan offices of Evangelization and Religious Education and Loyola University New Orleans will sponsor a free workshop for youth and young adults Dec. 14 from 9 a.m. to noon to discuss ways to strengthen ministry and outreach to an often overlooked segment of the Catholic population.

The Sociedad Española, founded in 1974 as a cultural organization to promote Spanish culture, traditions and the language, presented the inaugural Maria Garcia Daly essay contest award Oct. 20. Daly was a founding member of the society.

Following a Mass earlier this year attended by students from Archbishop Shaw High School, the Academy of Our Lady inducted their student council members. Principals from both schools, Dr. Mark Williams and Salesian Sister Michelle Geiger  expressed that it is an honor to be elected a student leader.

The Academy of the Sacred Heart inducted 13 Eucharistic Ministers this semester at a liturgy included readings centered around Eucharistic themes. Upper School Campus Minister Megan Noll led the commissioning ceremony and reflection, before each of the Eucharistic Ministers were called forward to receive their pin from Upper School Division Head Julie Boyd.

Journalism Education Association Louisiana Director Albert Dupont presented  Joseph Bordlee with awards of recognition for the Academy of Our Lady school year “Fleur de Lis.”

The National Honor Society Tapping Ceremony is a great tradition at Academy of Our Lady. Twenty-seven students received recognition for their academic achievements and were inducted into Academy of Our Lady’s chapter of the National Honor Society at the annual Tapping Ceremony held Oct. 30.

Students in Academy of Our Lady’s Law Studies class traveled to the Jefferson Parish District Attorney’s Office recently and observed two courtrooms. In addition, the students experienced what is was like to be in court on motion day and met individuals within the law field who imparted great wisdom and advice. Law Studies, taught by an attorney, is among the elective courses offered at Academy of Our Lady.

Stanton F. McNeely III, Ed.D., will be inaugurated as the 19th president of the University of Holy Cross (UHC) on Dec. 6 at 10 a.m. at the Moreau Center on campus, 4123 Woodland Drive in New Orleans. A reception will follow.
