I sat on a cloud with my trumpet in hand. For every angel, today was a very special day. Jesus of Nazareth was to be born! I jumped from my spot in the orchestra and ran over to St. Michael the Archangel, who stood at the yellow gate on the outskirts of heaven.
“How much longer, St. Michael?” I asked as a smile gradually spread across my face.
He responded, “Only a few minutes, dear friend!” He mirrored my smile. I turned around and watched as all the angels took their spots upon clouds and tall rows of marble seating.
“Thank you,” I said, and swiftly flew back to my spot in the third row of our orchestra. We all waited in anticipation for the birth of Jesus. No angel could sit still. Slowly, St. Michael made his way to the center of the main plaza. We all watched his graceful movements and sat in silence as we prayed for the newborn king.
Suddenly, heaven shook. A sweet aroma of joy and love overwhelmed every angel in heaven. St. Michael opened his eyes, turned to all of us, and exclaimed, “He has been born!”
I wiped the tears from my eyes, looked at the Earth below us, and watched as it began to light up from the stars above. Jesus was going to save the world.
We lifted our instruments and in harmony played,
“Silent night, holy night!
Shepherds quake at the sight.
Glories stream from heaven afar
Heavenly hosts sing Alleluia,
Christ the Savior is born!
Christ the Savior is born!”
