Ascension of Our Lord Knights award scholarships, earns state award

The Knights of Columbus, Ascension of Our Lord, Council 9623, recently awarded the Father Benjamin Piovan Memorial Scholarship to Asecnsion of Our Lord Catholic School seventh graders Bailey Torres and Mary Grace Conner. It is to be used to further their education in eighth grade at St. Charles Catholic High School in LaPlace.

The two winners had to fill out an application that was judged. Bailey and Mary Grace had the highest scores. The scholarship is funded by the proceeds from the council's Lenten fish fries.

In addition, at the recent Knights of Columbus, Louisiana state convention, Ascension's Council 9623 received the State Deputy’s Award, given to the top Knights of Columbus Council in Louisiana. Council 9623 has won this award nine out of the last 11 years.

The  Deputy’s award recognizes outstanding achievement in membership, insurance promotion, programs, support of state fundraising programs, participation, administration and overall operations. 

Council 9623 also earned third in the state for contributions to the Knights of Columbus Youth Expansion Program.
