Ascension parishioner gets athletic field named after him

After 40 years of dedicated service, Mike Abbate received the honor at the 8:30 a.m. Mass Oct. 22 of having all Ascension of Our Lord Catholic School ball fields named after him. The fields are now called “THE COACH MIKE’S FIELD.”
Abbate is Ascension of Our Lord School's assistant athletic director and is recreation director for the Ascension of Our Lord Catholic Church Parish in LaPlace. He also is Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus Council 9623 at Ascension.
