St. Mary’s Dominican High School honored student athletes at the school’s volleyball awards night. The program began with a prayer and blessing of the team’s championship rings by Father Patrick Carr, pastor at St. Rita Catholic Church New Orleans. Dominican’s volleyball team won the Division I championship title Nov. 14, defeating St. Joseph Academy’s Redsticks at the Louisiana High School Athletic Association (LHSAA) state volleyball tournament.

The Lou Reilly Memorial Awards are presented to athletes who continually try to improve their skills and who have listened to their coaches and teammates.
Each recipient is recognized for encouraging those playing while she is not in the game and, when playing, gives her full effort at each moment. The student athletes themselves share a nominating vote in the selection of the award, while the final decisions are left to the discretion of the coaches.
