The inaugural Archdiocesan Musicians’ Convocation, open to anyone involved in music ministry in parishes or schools, will be held Nov. 16 from 8:30 a.m. to noon at Schulte Auditorium of Notre Dame Seminary, 2901 S. Carrollton Ave., New Orleans.
Father James J. Cheponnis, director of the Office for Music Ministry in the Diocese of Pittsburgh and a noted church composer, will address music directors, organists, pianists, cantors, choir members and ensemble musicians on “Putting the Pastoral in Pastoral Musician.”
The workshop is sponsored by the archdiocesan Office of Worship. Archbishop Gregory Aymond will welcome attendees by presiding at morning prayer.
Father Cheponnis has led workshops on pastoral music throughout the country. He has published more than 100 compositions through MorningStar, GIA Publications and World Library Publications and has served as an editor of GIA Publication’s hymnal, “Worship, Fourth Edition.”
Among his compositions are the “Jubilation Mass” and the “Festival Alleluia.”
Betty Ann Hickey, associate director of the worship office, said the workshop “is open to anyone involved in music ministry in the archdiocese” and is the latest effort to provide resources and information to an increasingly networked core of church musicians in the archdiocese.
Participants are asked to register online at nolacatholic.org/musicevents or by contacting the Office of Worship at [email protected] or 861-6300.
