Dr. Xavier A. Cole, the first African American to serve as president of Loyola University New Orleans in its 111-year history, was inaugurated as the university's 18th president Nov. 10. He recalled the lessons his late mother Rose taught him in overcoming adversity. Rose contracted polio and walked with a brace on her left leg. That brace never slowed her down, Cole said. “She just put high heels on that brace!” Cole pledged to work with business partners to sustain the university’s mission.
