National Merit semifinalists named

The National Merit Semifinalists in the 67th annual National Merit Scholarship Program for 2022 were recently announced.

These local Catholic high school seniors in the Archdiocese of New Orleans were among 16,000 recognized to continue in the competition for 7,500 National Merit Scholarships worth nearly $30 million, to be awarded next spring.

More than 1.5 million students entered the 2022 National Merit Scholarship Program.

Local semifinalists:

ACADEMY OF THE SACRED HEART: Juliette Camenzuli, Olivia Finch, Sloane Paysse and Olivia Boyd.
ARCHBISHOP HANNAN: Jesse Bertucci, Christian Radman and Matthew Verges.
ARCHBISHOP RUMMEL: Kaden McLaughlin.
BROTHER MARTIN: Kyle Borde, Matthew Lindner, Chase Lormand, Logan Millet and Landin Sanborn.
DE LA SALLE: Sam Becker.
JESUIT: Luc Carriere, Nicholas Nobile, Richard Tonry and Matthew Vuong each earned perfect 36 scores on the ACT test; and Louis Bercaw, Dylan Bracey, Shreyash Singh and Kaden Oqueli-White earned superscore 36 ACTs.

ST. MARY’S DOMINICAN: Jane Bostick, Monica Cabes, Anne Carr, Elizabeth Mobley, Kaylie Nguyen, Maeve Storm and Kate Weiss.
ST. PAUL’S: Thomas Cazenavette, William Ditta, James Walker Dubreuil, Gage Graham, Andrew Hightower, Carter Murphy, Zachary Nichols, Michael Olsen, Preston Orgeron, Brody Reina, Kason Shaw and Daniel Whalen.

Local Commended students:

Local students named as National Merit Commended students among 34,000 scorers who entered the 2022 competition by taking the 2020 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test are:

ACADEMY OF THE SACRED HEART: Commended Scholars include Katherine Wise and Laney Calhoun. In addition, Céci Curran has received the National African-American Recognition, and Lillian Balart has received the National Hispanic Recognition.
BROTHER MARTIN: Andrew Biehl, Brian Dufrene and Addison Wilberg.
DE LA SALLE: Eamon Kelly was named a Commended student by the National Merit Scholarship corporation.
ST. MARY’S DOMINICAN: Ellen Daly, Jasmine Ferrier, Katherine Gomez, Ada Holmes, Sara Landry, Katelin Obletz and Jenna Thomas.
ST. PAUL’S: Marco Vargas and Blake Weimer. Vargas and Gage Graham also were named National Hispanic Recognition Program Scholars.
