A spokesman for Second Harvest Food Bank, the food bank of the Archdiocese of New Orleans, said financial contributions are the most effective way to help with disaster response for Hurricane Ida.
“More than anything in a disaster response, monetary gifts are the most efficient way to help right now,” said Jay Vise, communications director for Second Harvest, in an interview today with WWL radio. “We’ve had tremendous response starting to flow in from around the country, but disaster response is expensive.”
Vise said Second Harvest has a fleet of about two dozen trucks and delivery vans, with additional other trucks arriving from other food banks, and the costs of fuel and housing for those responding adds up.
“We're going to have to buy a lot of food, we're going to offer to buy some fuel, and there's just so many expenses involved in this,” Vise said.
Those wishing to help immediately can go to www.no-hunger.org or simply Google Second Harvest Food Bank for more information. All contributions are tax deductible.
