School Sister of Notre Dame Dorothy Maniscalco, a longtime teacher at Our Lady of Prompt Succor School in Chalmette, died Nov. 5 at Trinity Trace Community Care Center in Covington. She was 90 and had served for 70 years in religious life.
She was the fifth of six children born to Anthony and Dorothy Accarda Maniscalco. Their family grocery business was located in the Irish Channel.
The Maniscalcos belonged to St. Alphonsus Parish, where Dorothy attended Redemptorist High School. She entered the School Sisters of Notre Dame in 1947.
Most of her 66 years in education were in the New Orleans area. She served either as a classroom teacher or as an administrator for almost four decades at Our Lady of Prompt Succor School in Chalmette.
She retired from the school in 2013.
Sister Dorothy was preceded in death by her brothers and sisters. She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Her Funeral Mass was celebrated Nov. 10 at Most Holy Trinity Church in Covington. Interment was at the St. Mary of the Pines Cemetery in Chatawa.
