The Archdiocese of New Orleans (ANO) Retreat Center is inviting all high school students to rename bedrooms at its Metairie location in the “Called to Be Saints” contest.
Students’ winning submissions will be displayed in a bedroom for use by future retreatants. Winning students will be guests at a youth event at the ANO Retreat Center at a future date where they will have an opportunity to spend time in the rooms with their saints, to pray a special Litany of Saints, enjoy a meal and participate in other activities.
Rules for the contest:
► Students may choose any “holy one” who has been declared either a Servant of God, Venerable, Blessed or a saint.
► In your own words, please write a five- to seven-sentence biography of the holy person you have chosen. You may want to include any remarkable things the saint did as well as the reason why you are inspired by this saint.
► Then, write a two- to three-sentence prayer starter for your saint. You may want to include a virtue that the saint possessed that you would like to emulate.
The center hopes the names will reflect the diversity of Catholic saints worldwide, including of Asian, Latino, Black, Caucasian and Native American descent. Submissions are due Jan. 31, 2022.
The retreat center is located at 5500 St. Mary St., Metairie. Call (504) 887-1420 or visit: https://neworleansretreats.com/called-to-be-saints
