The Clarion Herald’s 2014 Elite Girls’ Basketball Team

When Cabrini’s head basketball coach Nancy Walsh needed to make things happen offensively for her Crescents, she put the ball in the hands of Rakell Spencer.

Nicknamed “Queen” by her teammates, the talented sophomore had a penchant for taking over the offense at a guard or an inside position.

Spencer’s play and the leadership of Walsh were greatly responsible for Cabrini’s 22-9 record and the runner-up position in District 9-4A.

Panos Bountovinas coached a talented Mount Carmel squad to a 27-6 record and into the Class 5A championship tournament.

Carefully substituting players to get the most mileage from his talent, Bountovinas earned a spot next to Walsh as the Clarion Herald’s Elite Girls’ Basketball Team’s co-Coach of the Year.
