Archbishop Shaw continued its climb toward a possible return to the Catholic League by proving its viability against the “big boys” during the 2023-24 basketball season.
Coach Wesley Laurendine’s Eagles followed the lead of the football team by winning 23 of 25 games, sweeping its district rivals and gaining the No. 4 seed in the Select Division II playoffs.
The football team posted a 10-3 record, also sweeping its district and reaching the semifinal playoff round.
Losing just two games during the regular season, the basketball Eagles advanced through the playoffs before being eliminated by D-II runner-up Madison Prep late in the tournament.
The Eagles were led by 6-5 senior Christian Creppel, an inside and outside scoring threat who averaged 15.7 points and 6.5 rebounds. He also was an intimidating defender because of his blocking ability.
The individuals selected to the Elite team were chosen for their skills and contributions to their teams’ success, particularly against the strongest opponents on their schedules.
Other members of the Elite Team are:
Cy Merrett, St. Augustine
Xavier Meyers, Archbishop Shaw
Jude Laforge, Jesuit
Armand Woods, De La Salle
Turner Duncan, St. Augustine
Kenneth Hall, St. Charles Catholic
Eli Pichon, Brother Martin
Jamard Jones, Archbishop Rummel
Brewer Nitcher, Jesuit
Drew Timmons, Archbishop Hannan
Michael Sarver, St. Paul's
