The year 2020 has certainly been one that no one could have predicted. All of us in our families, in our work, and in our church communities have faced unprecedented challenges – from the COVID-19 pandemic to multiple hurricane and tropical storm threats.
It is my prayer for each of you that through all of these challenges, your faith remains strong.
In these uncertain times and in an Advent and Christmas season that will look much different for many of us, it would be easy to find ourselves feeling alone and afraid. As we continue our Advent journey and look ahead to the celebration of Christmas, I invite you to reflect on the words of the angel Gabriel to Mary at the Annunciation: “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God.” (Luke 1:30).
The celebration of Christmas reminds us that our hope is in the Lord and that we should put our faith in him. As Mary carried Jesus in her womb, let us carry him today in our hearts and let go of fear.
May the blessings of the Advent and Christmas season remain with you through the new year.
