In the first letter of St. Paul to the Church of Corinth, he writes, “For as we share abundantly in Christ’s sufferings, so through Christ we share abundantly in comfort too” (2 Cor 1:15).
Since Hurricane Ida made landfall on Aug. 29, leaving behind havoc and pain, the Church of the Diocese of Houma-Thibodaux has shared much in the sufferings of Christ. While this is true, it is also true that we have shared in his abundant comfort – a comfort which has been conveyed faithfully through you.
As shepherd, I write this letter of thanks on behalf of the people of the Diocese of Houma-Thibodaux for the comfort you have brought through your many sacrifices on our behalf and steadfastness in faith.
I want to especially thank the Clarion Herald for your recent articles and your bringing awareness to our community in the wake of Hurricane Ida.
While we can never repay you for your kindness toward us through your gift of financial support, numerous supply donations, well wishes and prayers, we offer you our gratitude and prayers in thanksgiving to Almighty God for your generosity toward us.
With deepest appreciation and heartfelt thanks, I remain sincerely yours in Christ Jesus, our Crucified and Risen Lord,
MOST REV. SHELTON J. FABRE
Bishop
Diocese of Houma-Thibodaux
Editor’s note: In the aftermath of Hurricane Ida, which left parts of Lafourche and Terrebonne civil parishes devastated, the Clarion Herald staff traveled to the Houma-Thibodaux Diocese to write articles on how Catholic schools were recovering from the disaster. Those articles appear in the hurricane edition of The Bayou Catholic, the diocesan magazine (bayoucatholic.org/issues).
