Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ:
Each year I look forward to the last week of January, when we observe National Catholic Schools Week (Jan. 31-Feb. 6).
As an archdiocese, we recognize the value of Catholic education and support our families and schools in educating and forming our children so they can reach their God-given potential.
We acknowledge the vital role of each school’s faculty, staff and volunteers in this effort. Additionally, we celebrate our students as they learn about their faith and the skills they need for a successful future.
This year’s theme – Catholic Schools: Faith. Excellence. Service. – focuses on the core tenets of Catholic education. As a Catholic community, we support our schools through prayer and by sharing our time, talent and treasure. In turn, our schools collaborate with families to form our children into disciples of Christ who witness God’s love with joy.
This year’s theme also highlights academic excellence, leadership and dedication to service.
These elements are what set Catholic schools apart from all others.
Each school community has planned events to celebrate National Catholic Schools Week. Unfortunately, due to COVID-19 restrictions, we will not be able to invite guests to our campuses this year to share in our activities. However, we will be sharing events and messages via both school and archdiocesan social media outlets.
This week provides a great opportunity for each of us to witness what our students are accomplishing and to thank the administrators, faculty, staff and volunteers who give so much of themselves in ministry.
Our Catholic schools are a vital part of our future as a Church and a nation. Please join me in praying for God’s blessings upon our schools and all who contribute to the ministry of Catholic education in our community.
Yours in Christ,
Dr. RaeNell Houston
