Deacon Edward R. Cannon, who was ordained a permanent deacon in 1991 and served at St. Philip Neri Parish for 20 years, died of cancer July 23 at his home in Metairie.
Deacon Cannon, 78, was the former owner of Crescent Tile and Carpet Company of New Orleans and past president o the South Claiborne Avenue Businessman’s Association. He also was a former sales manager of Transtar Distributors.
Deacon Cannon attended Jesuit High School and was a graduate of Louisiana State University, where he majored in business.
Deacon Cannon was married for 48 years to the former Evelyn McDonough, who passed away in 2001. He is survived by their four children: Maryanne Cannon Shields (Bobby), Lisa Cannon Chappetta (Tony), Stephen T. Cannon (Rowena) and Eric R. Cannon (Corinna). He also is survived by six grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
A funeral Mass was celebrated July 30 at St. Philip Neri by retired Auxiliary Bishop Dominic Carmon. Interment was private.
