Latasha LaBostrie Skidmore is the new principal of St. Katharine Drexel Prep.
Skidmore, a New Orleans native who attended Xavier Prep, earned a bachelor of arts degree in elementary education, with a minor in English and certifications in early childhood education, nursery school, upper elementary and grades 1-8, from Southern University of New Orleans in 1996. She also earned two master’s degrees in curriculum and instruction (2004) and educational leadership (2007) from Xavier University of Louisiana. She is working on her doctorate.
Skidmore taught students in grades pre-K through 12 in public schools in New Orleans’ Recovery School District, East Baton Rouge, St. James and Ascension parishes. She was a support specialist educator at Ben Franklin Elementary and Middle.
She served as CEO and principal of Children’s Charter in Baton Rouge from 2018-21. She also was an assistant principal with the Recovery School District from 2007-10 at Coghill, Francis W. Gregory and Paul Habans elementary schools.
Skidmore said she is proud to return to the Prep family.
“It gives me great pride and pleasure to offer the scholars a strong Christian background, quality education and share some of my fond experiences of 5116 (Magazine St.),” she said. “With proven leadership, hard work and dedication in educating children, I am looking forward to a progressive, meaningful and fulfilling school year for those I lead and serve.”
